For our client, a large, established international technology organisation operating across multiple markets, we are looking for a DevOps Engineering Manager to provide both technical and people leadership for a distributed DevOps team. The company operates in a highly regulated, security-sensitive and business-critical environment, where reliability, trust and operational excellence are essential.

The role will focus on helping teams deliver software safely and at scale, while maintaining platform reliability, security, and delivery standards. Combining engineering execution, platform strategy, and team development, this person will work closely with global managers to align practices across regions, strengthen DevOps maturity, and support both digital delivery and operational stability.

Who You Are

You are a people-first engineering leader with strong communication and stakeholder management skills, combined with enough technical depth to confidently lead an experienced DevOps team. You are comfortable creating clarity in complex environments, developing people, and working across technical and business functions.

 What You’ll Do:

  • Team Management: Lead and manage a team of DevOps engineers, establishing clear expectations, priorities, and accountability for delivery and operational outcomes.
  • Coaching and Development: Provide regular feedback, 1:1 coaching, and mentoring to support team members’ development and growth.
  • Performance Management: Set goals, provide performance feedback, and support team development and succession planning.
  • Workforce Planning & Hiring: Plan team capacity and skills, support hiring and onboarding, and ensure effective knowledge transfer.
  • Delivery & Operations: Lead project and operational delivery, set priorities, remove blockers, manage dependencies, and ensure reliable, secure, and scalable DevOps services.
  • Planning & Governance: Ensure effective planning, change and release management, and risk management to support predictable delivery.
  • Cross-Functional & Global Collaboration: Work with technical leaders and global DevOps teams to align priorities, resolve dependencies, and ensure consistent standards and ways of working across regions.
  • Technical Direction: Partner with technical leads and architects on DevOps standards and long-term direction across CI/CD, cloud, automation, observability, reliability, and security.
  • Continuous Improvement: Use delivery and reliability metrics to identify improvements and strengthen team and platform performance.
  • Culture & Engagement: Build a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and an automation-first mindset.

What You’ll Need

  • Proven engineering leadership experience, with a strong focus on people development, team effectiveness, and delivery.
  • 7+ years of experience in Software Development, DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, SRE, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of modern DevOps and software delivery practices, including cloud technologies, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, automation, observability, and reliability. You do not need to be the primary hands-on technical expert, but should be able to confidently participate in technical discussions and support decision-making.
  • Experience working in complex, high-availability or business-critical environments, balancing delivery, operational stability, technical quality, and team priorities.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence senior stakeholders and work across distributed global teams.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in regulated, security-sensitive environments and/or leading globally distributed teams.
  • Working knowledge of AWS, Terraform or similar IaC tools, Kubernetes, CI/CD platforms, and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or ELK.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps, IAM, secrets management, disaster recovery, and compliance requirements.
  • Relevant AWS, Cloud, DevOps, Agile, or IT service management certifications.
  • Familiarity with Jira, ServiceNow, and enterprise change or release management practices.
