Jaka Lounge is supporting our client, Pollard Digital Solutions, in the search for an Application Architect.
Pollard Digital Solutions builds high-scale, high-security digital lottery systems used by national and state-regulated lotteries across Europe and North America. Established in 1996 as the first company to digitalize a national lottery, the company now operates as part of Pollard Banknote Limited (founded in 1907 IN Winnipeg, Canada) and has offices in Serbia, Iceland, Canada, Spain, Austria, Bulgaria, and Tunisia.
The Belgrade office is the center of product development, bringing together more than 160 engineers who work on the company’s iLottery platform and game solutions. Pollard Digital Solutions is not a gambling company, but a state lottery technology provider operating in a highly regulated environment (ISO, PCI, GDPR), dealing with complex transaction systems, and building technology that millions of players rely on securely every day.
About the Role
They are expanding their Architecture team and looking for an Application Architect who will guide the design and evolution of the Catalyst platform – a modern, microservices-based, cloud first iLottery solution launched earlier this year in the U.S. market.
In this role, the Application Architect will take ownership of the architecture for one product “experience” area (Player, Gaming, Platform, or Operations Experience) while working horizontally across teams to ensure consistency, scalability, and compliance. The architect will collaborate closely with directors, delivery managers, engineering managers, tech leads, product leaders, and other architects, balancing modernization initiatives with the need for stability and reliability.
Role blends technical engagement and architectural leadership, focusing on design and decision making, implementation reviews, technical experimentation, proof of concept initiatives and ongoing guidance for engineering teams independent of specific programming languages or frameworks.
What You Will Work On
- Lead architecture for one part of the platform, while contributing to shared architectural direction across all product areas.
- Partner with delivery, engineering and product leaders in discovery phase for product and tech initiatives
- Partner with multiple engineering teams to evolve microservices, interfaces, and integration patterns.
- Participate in POCs, technical spikes, design reviews, and selected code reviews.
- Ensure system consistency, performance, scalability, and security across services.
- Support modernization from legacy components toward cloud-native services (Go, Node.js, Java).
- Collaborate on compliance and regulatory requirements (PCI-DSS, ISO standards, GDPR).
- Provide architectural documentation, standards, and decision records.
- Contribute to defining long-term architectural vision while navigating short-term delivery needs.
Technology Ecosystem
We operate in a modern, cloud-native environment built on microservices and multi-tenant architectures. Our stack spans web, mobile, and game interfaces; service layers in Java and Go; event-driven messaging; and robust data platforms. We leverage AWS, Kubernetes, and CI/CD practices to ensure scalability, performance, and security. While familiarity with these technologies is helpful, we value architectural thinking and adaptability over expertise in any single tool.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience designing and implementing distributed systems or microservice architectures.
- Solid understanding of cloud-native development (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Strong knowledge of system integration, API design, and performance considerations.
- Experience balancing legacy modernization with stability needs.
- Ability to influence without imposing – strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Extensive Software Engineering experience with at least 2 years in an Architecture-focused role.
- Experience in direct communication with external clients and stakeholders.
- Excellent English communication and advanced presentation skills.
What is Offered
- Hybrid or remote work model
- Flexible working hours with key collaboration hours (09:00– 17:00)
- 22 vacation days + additional days with tenure
- Private health insurance (children fully covered, spouse optional add-on)
- Best Doctors international coverage
- Paid parking (Airport City)
- Annual profit-sharing program for all employees
Interview Process
- Interview with Director of Architecture & VP of Engineering
- On-site whiteboard session with architect
- Final interview with CTO
If you’re interested into design systems that are secure, scalable, and used by millions in an environment where architecture truly matters, we’d like to meet you.
